Authorities in Madhya Pradesh have confiscated jewellery belonging to Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, which they had taken on their honeymoon to Meghalaya. This action was part of an ongoing investigation by a special investigation team (SIT) from Meghalaya.
The SIT retrieved not only the jewellery but also other significant items, including Sonam's laptop and a pen drive, from the residence of Silome James, the in-laws of an Indore property dealer.
James had previously leased a flat in Indore to Vishal Singh Chauhan, one of the three men accused of aiding Sonam in the murder of her husband. Chauhan had returned to Indore after the incident, where Raja Raghuvanshi was killed.
James was apprehended on suspicions of attempting to manipulate and hide evidence related to the case. Additionally, the flat's owner, Lokendra Tomar, and a security guard named Balveer were also arrested for their involvement in tampering with evidence.
The investigation took a significant turn when the Meghalaya SIT visited James's in-laws in Ratlam, uncovering cash and incriminating documents. Upon interrogation, James admitted to transferring these items to his in-laws' residence.
According to SIT officials, Sonam, the primary suspect in the murder, is believed to have resided in the Indore flat rented by James from May 26 to June 8, prior to her surrender to the police.
Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered by Sonam and three accomplices during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The couple was reported missing when family members lost contact with them.
The investigation intensified after Raja's body was found at the bottom of a gorge on June 2, with the preliminary autopsy indicating he had been struck twice on the head.
On June 7, Sonam was located unconscious at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur and was taken to Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she subsequently surrendered to law enforcement. The remaining suspects were arrested following further investigations.
